Grand Champion Colored Angora Doe

We are seedstock producers who specialize in putting breeding flocks together of unrelated animals for breeders just starting out, so please feel free to ask a lot of questions and use our knowledge. If you are looking for pets there are several breeders who specialize more in pet stock than ourselves - our sole concentration is on the highest quality breeding stock. Sale animals include production and pedigree records.

We are located near Stephenville, TX- 1 hour southwest of Fort Worth, Texas.

Be sure that you are well prepared and have researched Angora Goats thoroughly. We suggest everyone even mildly interested in angoras get a copy of the book Angora Goats the Northern Way ($22+ shipping). Click here for more info and to purchase.

Does

After achieving status as one of the top angora goat herds in the country we are shifting the focus of our farm a bit and offering some of our best nannies for sale. We will continue to be heavily involved with angoras, but are cutting back our numbers drastically and focusing more on our young stock. This is an excellent chance to own genetics that have produced numerous regional and national champions.

In general:

  • AAGBA registered white does are $275 - $350 per head
  • CAGBA registered colored does $300-500 per head

Color Carriers
These does have been bred specifically for their ability to improve the fiber characteristics in a colored breeding program. These crosses have produced most of our replacement stud bucks and show string does over the years. This marks the first time we have offered any significant number of these genetically powerful does to our buyers.

0039 - not quite white doe kid out of CAGBA National Champion buck 5037 (50% AAGBA registered white) and doe 5045 (Absolut [50% registered white] x AAGBA Flach 3082). This doe should throw color when bred back to a black buck. This is the combination of genetics that produces our best show goats. $325

0045 - growthy June born doe kid out of CAGBA National Champion buck 5037 (50% AAGBA registered white) and fine haired AAGBA white doe 0056. This doe should be able to improve the hair in your colored breeding program and has will likely throw 50% colored kids. $250

5045 - 2005 not quite white doe out of Absolut (50% registered white) and a AAGBA registered white doe. This doe has produced both black and color carrying kids. She is exposed to a dark red buck for March 2010 kidding. $250

4105 - 2007 triplet white doe out of AAGBA buck Speck 3545 x AAGBA doe Flach 2914. Dam is mother of our well known foundation sire Absolut, sire was born light red out of a registered herd. 4105 had a white kid with grey shading this spring (bred to black buck) and should have a good chance of throwing color, or put in with your registered white billy for fine haired white kids. She is AAGBA registered, a smaller bodied doe, but with phenomenally fine hair. She is exposed to CAGBA national Champion buck 5037 (black) for March 2010 kidding. $275.

About our Herd Sire Selection Program

We do not sell colored buck kids! We have seen too many breeders (ourselves included in more naive times) pin their hopes on a stunning buck kid, only to have him mature into a buck that should only be meant for the dinner table. We have made a committment to select our top percentage of bucks each year and spend a year raising and evaluating their quality, selecting those that make the cut finally after 2nd shearing by using the data we have collected over the previous year. Our yearling bucks have gone through a minimum of 3 culling phases. The first phase occurs in May of their year of birth, those that don't show adequate promise are castrated and offered as pets or 4-H projects. The ones that show potential are held through first shearing. After first shearing weight and quality evaluations, another set of buck kids is castrated and the remaining bucks are re-evaluated in 1 month of hair. Those that show potential are again held, this time until second shearing when they are micron sampled and tested and again graded on fleece quality and weight. Then and only then do we make our decisions on who makes the grade to be called a Hill Shepherd Herd Sire. Out of 30-50 bucks born per year perhaps one or two per year will make the grade as a herd sire.

If you are interested in any of the animals here, please call Sara at 330-390-0240 and arrange a time to come view the animals.  Occasional delivery to Ohio, Wisconsin and Colorado (and points on the route to those destinations from Texas) may be available for a fee. We are planning a trip from Texas to Ohio the first week of March 2010. We can meet buyers at convenient locations along the interstate route.
