After shearing, we will determine whether this buck kid qualifies to be kept to a yearling for possible evaluation as a breeding buck. Because Angora males change so much from kid to yearling and because they make up more than 50% of your flock, a herd sire should be selected as a yearling or older. To that end, we track production (body weight, growth, fleece weight, fiber diameter) when they pass our criteria as yearlings and offer them for sale when they have passed our standard. This way, you know the investment you make in a Hill Shepherd billy is a good one!
